How to Get to El Yaque from Margarita Airport
Your complete transport guide covering taxis, shuttles, and rental cars from Santiago Marino Airport to Playa El Yaque.
Santiago Marino International Airport (PMV) on Margarita Island is the gateway to El Yaque. Here's how to get from the airport to the beach.
Distance & Time El Yaque is located just 5 kilometers from the airport, making it one of the most conveniently located beach destinations in the Caribbean. The drive takes approximately 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.
Option 1: Taxi (Recommended) Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals terminal. The fare to El Yaque should be approximately $10-15 USD. Tips: agree on the price before getting in, and confirm the driver knows El Yaque specifically (not just "the beach").
Option 2: Hotel Shuttle Many hotels at El Yaque offer airport transfers, either complimentary or for a small fee. This is often the most stress-free option. Be sure to arrange this with your hotel before arrival and provide your flight details.
Option 3: Rental Car Several car rental agencies operate at the airport. A rental car gives you the freedom to explore the island beyond El Yaque. Rates start from around $30-40 USD per day. Note: Venezuelan traffic can be chaotic, and road signage is limited.
Option 4: Bus The most budget-friendly option. Local buses (known as "por puesto") pass by the airport on the main road and can drop you at the El Yaque turnoff. From there, it's a short walk or another short bus ride. Total cost: less than $1 USD. However, this option requires some Spanish and local knowledge.
Important Tips - Have your hotel address written down in Spanish - Carry small bills in USD or Venezuelan Bolivars - International flights arrive at Terminal 1; domestic at Terminal 2 - The airport has WiFi, ATMs, and money exchange services - If arriving late at night, pre-arrange hotel transfer for safety
